Just Some Frontier Things?
Embedded wallets have only been around for, what, two years, max?
I was an early "user"1 of Daimo, a deeply Ethereum-aligned2 self-custodial payments solution.
At one point in time, I "owned" a wallet embedded inside an iPhone app, which allowed me to send USDC to people seamlessly. Like Venmo, but better because I "owned" it.
Over time, my phone offloaded the app to save space. I clicked on the cloud icon to re-download it today. My iPhone tells me "Unable to install Daimo, The app is no longer available in the App Store."
What happened to my munnies? Is my bripto safu? Can. I. Haz. My. Munny. Now.
Of course, my privilege is that I can ping any of multiple people who are mutually connected to the team, and most likely will eventually recover my funds. But this feels like a wild case of frontier reality not living up to the promise of self-sufficiency and ownership.
I implore every crypto team building in 2025, to include native product thinking of what happens to user funds when the app gets blocked in App Store(s).
as an early user of Farcaster, I got to play some social games seeded with actual money to go around the network. Like most other Farcaster users, I did not need any skin in the game in order to participate. In fact, being on the network paid me to FAFO with stuff↩
