My Algo Is Working For Me (Recently)
Celebrating a win.
The win: delightful discovery, free range and organic, across multiple platforms. Delivered by the world, including Hollywood.
What happened:
IG showed me clips of a white standup speaking Chinese in front of a NY crowd
dude, it's Des Bishop, who I had discovered independently a few years ago via Katie Boyle. Both Irish American comedians. I didn't even realize he had gone to China or learned Chinese
I actively went looking for, and subscribed to The Bishop Exchange, his podcast with John Bishop (unrelated) and Brad. John was famous in Britain around the time I lived there, as maybe the only non-footballer Scouse accent on the telly. He had some killer bits on YouTube during the pandemic, which really uplifted people (including me!) during dark times. I just love listening to him tell stories, and reacting to people with a sort of Northern incredulity and a funny slow, common-sense delivery
Episode 36: F**kin' Eejits With Opinions hits hard. I wasn't expecting that from these fellas. But they're both a bit older than me, and quite clear minded about shit. Learned about the old folks' protest in Britain, pensioners in chairs holding placards and getting thrown in jail based on the government's misapplication of anti-terrorism statutes. After they gathered underneath a Mahatma Gandhi statue
Episode 38: John's Hollywood Movie Premiere, What. Bradley Cooper directed a movie1, written by and starring Will Arnett, co-starring Laura Dern, based fictionally (but accurately) on John's life. Coming out now on the film circuit, with broad release planned around Christmas
